How Does It Work? Why Are The Per Copy Fees For Your Arrangements $150 On Sheet Music Direct/Plus?!

Once you purchase learning tracks, I reduce the per copy fees for each song to $2.99.

You may wonder why we do it this way – totally understandable!
Outside of special allowances, arrangers are prohibited from personally selling their arrangements of any song under copyright. The print licensing fees (better known to vocal music singers as “per copy fees”) are paid to the publisher who holds the copyright to the song(s) being purchased. As you can imagine, this means arrangers earn very little profit.

Order Process:

1. You purchase learning tracks here on the website
2. We see the order and reduce the per copy fee of the sheet music in Sheet Music Direct/Plus*^
3. We provide you with links to the sheet music
4. You purchase & download the sheet music

It’s safe to say that Sheet Music Direct/Plus collects the per copy fees for at least 95% of the songs in Larry’s arrangement library. Their minimum per copy fee is $2.99 ($3.99 for medleys).

On the rare occasion that tracks are sold for a song whose copyright holder is not Sheet Music Direct/Plus, we will provide the name of the copyright holder and if we can find it, their contact information. From there, it is up to the purchaser to reach out to the copyright holder to pay the necessary fees required to obtain the sheet music. This is not something we can do on behalf of our customers.*

Please note: Sheet Music Direct/Plus has a set minimum purchase quantity of 10 copies (even if you only need 1). Unfortunately, we do not have any control over that.^

What is your Custom Arrangement pricing?

My base rate is $300 for a 2.5 minute arrangement.

Arrangements exceeding 2.5 minutes are calculated at $2 per additional second. You are welcome to calculate an estimate using my pricing model, however, please refer to me for a final quote. Please note that arrangements exceeding 4 parts will incur additional charges.

**Please consider us if you need vocal learning tracks for your arrangement! We make excellent learning media that is competitively priced.**

After you pay the customary $150 deposit, I will assess the song and reach out to you with an initial cost estimate. Once started, I will send progress updates and will always provide updates regarding cost. The remaining balance due will be collected upon delivery.

NOTE: To be considered “legal” to perform, a “song” licensing fee must be paid by you, the customer, directly to the publisher who controls the copyright of the song you had arranged.

To assist with this process, I will provide the publisher’s contact information upon delivery.

Does the BOGO deal still exist?

Yes!

Initially, I offered the BOGO as short term incentive but because it was so successful, I decided to adopt its pricing model permanently!

To make it simple, I offer a set of learning tracks for 1 song for $100, or two songs for $100. Easy choice!

Can I purchase just the arrangement a la carte?

Unfortunately, no.

We only reduce the per copy fee for an arrangement after the matching set of learning tracks is sold.

Due to a crackdown on the enforcement of copyright laws sometime in 2015, arrangers went from making about $60 profit per arrangement to only earning 10-12% of any per copy fees paid to the copyright holder (usually Sheet Music Plus), which you can imagine, isn’t a substantial amount of money. On some songs, they earn nothing.

Because audio recordings (i.e. vocal learning tracks) are not under any music publisher’s control and our learning media is made in-house, we leverage the tracks as incentive to access the sheet music to Larry’s arrangements at the minimum per copy fee allowed.**
This ensures both continued compensation and full compliance with copyright rules and regulations.

**The Customer is responsible for paying all licensing fees to the publisher who holds the copyright to the song. Additional context regarding copyright holders provided in article: “How Does It Work?**

I only need one arrangement. Can I purchase one for $50?

I do not offer one arrangement for $50.

As mentioned previously, profit restrictions established by the copyright holders of 98% of the music we sing prohibit arrangers from “residual” profit on our arrangements.

The average price of a full set of learning tracks for a single, already-recorded song is $95-100 and usually the artist who recorded the learning track is not who arranged the song.

Having created both the arrangement and learning tracks for over 50 years of charts, I have an extensive library of music that enables me to offer the “BOGO deal” my default pricing model.

To maintain competitive pricing, however, I cannot offer one song at $50.

Is it possible to redownload tracks I have purchased after the download link has expired?

Yes!

Upon initial purchase, a download link is provided that is active for two weeks and/or three download attempts. If you have lost access to your tracks, please contact me to request a new access link.

Why do some songs list All Tracks for sale, but not a Full Mix?

Good Catch!

Some songs in my library may have tracks that are either Instrumental/MIDI only, or were recorded in only one voicing, requiring a transposition up or down in pitch editing software. This doesn’t affect the learning process much, with some directors preferring a more “mechanical” teaching track for learning purposes.

With that said, Full Mix singles are most often purchased for listening pleasure, which justifies the small price for each track. Tracks that are Instrumental/MIDI only, or have been transposed into a different voicing, do not meet the quality standard to charge a fee and are not offered for purchase.
